Self Drive to Bwindi National Park

This is a home to the human relatives (the mountain gorillas) falling in the group of primates. They can be found in two national parks in Uganda, Bwindi and Mgahinga national parks. In other countries, the gentle apes are found in Rwanda’s Volcano national park and Congo’s Virunga national park.

Self-driving to Bwindi National park is possible, we can reserve the gorilla permit for you prior, or you can purchase it by yourself at Uganda wildlife Authority.

The park has thick vegetation that’s where it derived its name the impenetrable national park. Tracking or trekking means by foot, the gorillas are tracked by foot, there is no game drives in Bwindi. You will drive yourself to the park headquarter and then leave the car parked until you come back from tracking.

There are other activities around the park you can explore on your self-drive safari. Visiting the Batwa, nature walks and many more. Bwindi has 4 regions, Nkuringo, Buhoma, Ruhija and Rushaga each region has different gorilla families. When booking the permit, you have to choose a region depending on your itinerary or the region you prefer.

In Nkuringo, there is Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla lodge, and Nkuringo Home stay.

In case you have the car with rooftop tent or ground tent, there are lodges with campsites on different regions for instance, gorilla mist camp, and Rushaga gorilla camp.

After visiting Bwindi you can continue to other destinations like Queen Elizabeth National park, Kibale National park, Murchison falls national park or relaxing at Lake Bunyonyi.
